Documents Needed for Import From China

Core export and import documents buyers should prepare for customs clearance and bank payment.

Commercial invoice and packing list

The commercial invoice states value, terms, and seller/buyer details. The packing list matches carton counts, weights, and dimensions to the physical shipment. Discrepancies between these documents and the cargo are a common customs delay.

Transport document and origin certificate

Sea shipments use a bill of lading; air shipments use an air waybill. A certificate of origin may be required for preferential duty treatment — confirm requirements with your customs broker before production finishes.

Inspection and compliance certificates when required

Regulated categories may need test reports, CE declarations, fumigation certificates, or industry-specific inspection certificates. KM helps organize documentation workflows but does not replace customs authority or broker assessment.
